Terhark, a 6-foot-8 forward, is looking forward to running it back – albeit with a new group of teammates.
“We had eight seniors last year so we lose a lot but we definitely have some younger guys that will be back and step up,” Terhark said. “We had a sophomore who started that will be back. We have some other juniors who should ready to step in and fill some roles. This summer will be great for development. With team camps and stuff, it’s great time to work on things individually.”
Terhark’s spending the grassroots season with the Pentagon Schoolers, a team comprised of top-flight talent from South Dakota along with a few guys from Minnesota and North Dakota. He’s had some challenges adjusting to a new role with the team, but the opportunity to go up against high-end talent every weekend has been incredibly valuable.
“I love my teammates and it’s been fun to play with them,” said Terhark. “I’m playing a different role than I’m used to but it’s still been really good. We have some really good guards. We have a ton of talent. At the next level, that’s what it’ll be like. The competition is really high. It’s definitely different.”
Terhark’s one of the most talented players in South Dakota. He’s a prototypical four man at the college level in that he’s skilled on the offensive end out beyond the 3-point line and can defend inside and out.
“I’m not terribly athletic but I feel like I have good post moves and not a lot of people know this, but I can shoot pretty well,” said Terhark. “I’ve worked to expand my game in that way so I can do more things. In AAU I play a lot more inside. I think the strongest part of my game is my defense. I feel confident guarding anybody one-on-one and understanding when to help and stuff like that.”
Terhark’s drawing quite a bit of interest for that reason exactly.
“Right now I’ve got an offer from USF and I’m working to get a few more,” said Terhark. “I’ve been talking with NAIA, a couple DIIIs and a few other DIIs. Northern a little bit, MSUM, Briar Cliff, Concordia-Nebraska. Hopefully I can continue to draw more interest through the summer.”
