Recruiting Report: Coral Park’s Ga’Khari Lacount (2020)
College coaches have not made it a habit of coming to Coral Park in Miami-Dade County.
“We are a program that had won five games in three years before last season,” Coral Park coach Alejandro Ordoqui said.
Enter Ordoqui and high-scoring 2020 playmaker Ga’Khari Lacount. The Rams scheduled the likes of Wellington, South Miami, Oxbridge Academy and SLAM and won double-digit games in 2018-19.
Expect that total to rise even higher this coming season.
“We expect this year to be a contender in 7A,” Ordoqui said.
The 6-foot-1 Lacount is one of the top 2020 prospects in Miami-Dade. He is still looking for that first offer, but Barry and Eastern Florida are showing interest.
Wednesday night, he was dominant at the Miami-Dade Spring League at Miami Dade College. During one stretch vs. the Wolves (TERRA), Lacount came down on offense and drained a 3-pointer. On the ensuing possession, Lacount & Co. forced a turnover off the press and he had a beautiful no-look pass to a driving teammate.
“He’s a point guard that can score on all three levels and find his teammates and defend,” Ordoqui said. “You’re not going to find a better kid or a kid that works harder than him.
“He’s getting more consistent. His outside shot is becoming an everyday thing. Sometimes last year it would be a little streaky. Now every time you see him play, he’s making shots. His point guard abilities are just developing every day. He just works so hard.”
Lacount averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists and 7 rebounds as a junior. He is looked upon to be a team leader as one of two captains. He is a team player … he can almost be too unselfish at times, Ordoqui said.
Lacount said he would like to work on his driving skills this offseason.
As for where he would like to play on the next level, Lacount said: “It would be nice to stay home. I like running, fast-paced teams.”
Lacount and Coral Park will be going to the Barry and Florida Southern camps this summer.
