Continue ReadingNiles North 2020 combo guard Aquan Smart has flown a bit under the radar, but is starting to pick up steam at the right time. He has quality length and plus athleticism. Area we saw the most growth this spring was in his passing. Can definitely see him being a combo at the next level. Didn’t show much in the way of a jump shot, but he didn’t need it as he lived in the lane whether it was acrobatic finishes or getting to the line at Battle at the Lakes. He made a ton of trips to the charity stripe. Quality defender of both back court spots.
Smart spoke about his junior year for Niles North were he had to take on a bigger lead role with the graduation of the senior trio from their historic season the year prior.
“It was a slow one. We were building because we were led by a lot of sophomores and juniors so it was kind of hard this year.”
The combo guard talked about what he brings to the table as a player.
“My passing, my athleticism, and getting my teammates involved and breaking down my defender.”
He enjoys playing with Pure Prep out of Iowa on the circuit.
“It is going really well. It is my third year playing with them. It is pretty fun playing with a five star. It is a good experience.”
Recently he landed his first scholarship offer from Southeast Missouri State.
“They are always texting me.”
Any other schools involved?
“Coach Chester (Frazier) from Virginia Tech is always texting me. UAB and a couple mid-major schools.”
Look for Smart to make a huge leap in the next update of the PHI Rankings in June.
