Recruiting Report: Andre Bottoms (2020)
Andre Bottoms, a class of 2020 point guard from Oscar Smith/Team Push 757, was one of the best true floor generals we saw at Southern Jam Fest. This is nothing new as Bottoms has been holding it down on varsity since his freshman year.
“For those that haven’t seen me play, I play on both ends of the floor. I play defense hard, and I try to score, get my guys involved,” he said of his overall game. “I like to get people involved more than I like to score, but when I do have to score I make sure I get it done for my team and do what I gotta do.”
In Hampton this past weekend, Bottoms demonstrated a tight handle that enabled him to get wherever he wanted to on the floor.
“My main thing is I like to create off the dribble, get to the lane, and get layups or pull-up jumpers,” he explained. “I usually like to bring it out, use screen and roll a lot. If that’s not going, I’ll go to my handles, try to break people down and get to the basket.”
Bottoms says he is still waiting on his SAT score, but has a 3.2 GPA. He currently has two offers from Hampton and Norfolk State along with interest from a host of other schools such as Liberty, VMI, Elon, and the Citadel.
What are some things that will ultimately factor into his decision when considering schools?
“The top three things I look for in a school are: Relationship with the coaches, environment/location/campus feel, and being able to play my game/play style.”
What can Bottoms bring to a college program?
“I feel like I can bring my leadership. And my point guard abilities on both ends of the floor. Main thing is I can come in and be a leader. Show them that I can lead the team at a young age, and do what I’ve been doing since I’ve been playing basketball. Just being a leader and playing hard.”
Andre Bottoms is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-40 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2020 class, click here.
