For many the goal of playing basketball in college has finally been reached after years of hard work, so we first and foremost want to say congratulations. For the fans of high school players and college teams, we have the updates for who is going to what college program, as well as what players will be making decisions this week.
South Central HS Guard Shykeim Phillips made his commitment to UNCW as he will be joining fellow ENC standout Imajee Dodd. Phillips is a player that was huge for South Central all year long as they were a nationally ranked program that took home the state chip.
Trinity Christian PG Talton Jones committed to Cape Fear Community College and will be one that D1 programs keep a close eye on over the next two years. He gets after it on both ends of the floor and is one of the better passing guards that you will see in the state for his class.
71st HS Forward BJ McLaurin will play his college basketball in the CIAA as he has committed to Chowan University, the Hawks had a down season last year so he should get an early opportunity to see the floor.
Southern Lee HS Guard Khalil Ridges committed to NC Wesleyan and is a player that should make an early impact for the squad. He can score and defend at a nice rate, as well as being a high character young man, should have a very nice college career.
Walkertown HS Guard Jalen Cone made the decision to reclass up to 2019 and attend VA Tech, which is something that should have Hokie fans all over very excited. Cone is a scoring machine, that has impressive athletic ability and is high character young man off the court.
Grace Christian School Guard Nate Yow is headed to Sandhills CC and should be a player that makes an early impact on the team. He is a floor general that gets it done on both ends of the floor, can score the ball well but also is a tremendous facilitator.
Greene Central HS Teammates Jekeal Gay and Donte Johnson will continue to play together on the next level at FTCC. Gay is a wing man that can knock down shots and play above the rim, while Johnson is a more of a bruiser that gets it done inside the paint but can step out and score it as well.
Wayne Country Day Guard Marcus Metcalf is headed to Lenoir Rhyne, Metcalf was a huge part of why WCD went on such a run this past season. He has the ability to score the ball at a high rate but is a player that also gives a nice amount of effort on the defensive end of the floor as well.
Pamlico County HS Guard George Jones Jr decided to take his talent to FTCC, we really like what he brings to the table and his upside. He has good height and strength for a guard, to go along with an IQ that is well advanced, he’s not a player that does a ton of talking but gets the job flat out done.
Fayetteville Academy Forward Williams Oyenodi made his commitment to Coker College and will be a player that should make an early impact. Scoring and rebounding are where he makes the highest impact, and his upside is something that we are excited about as well.
