I was able to catch with him to gather his thoughts on his recent commitment to Lehigh and his blossoming game that is developing by the tournament. Li is a 6-foot-6, 230-pound forward that has the moves of a guard and is continuing to develop. He averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game this past season at Middleburg Academy.
Q: The reins were taken on early with your recruiting process. Talk about committing early on to Lehigh.
Ben Li: I was looking for the right fit for me and Lehigh was certainly the right fit for me academic-wise and the basketball side and I just wanted to commit early so I could get a headstart on getting mentally and physically ready for college. And in the end, Lehigh was the perfect spot for me.
Q: Your development has really taken off since you’ve committed as well. Talk about developing your role on the floor.
BL: I’ll do anything to get a win. I can score, I can rebound, I can set my teammates up for baskets. Even though I’ve committed, I still want to show off on the floor and I’ve done that so far.
Q: What are some summer goals for you?
BL: Just focusing on trying to get leaner and stronger and overall mentally stronger as well.
Lehigh University is certainly getting a player who has seen quite the rise in his value as a 2020 prospect these past few seasons. It will be interesting to see how much his game blossoms heading into July and his final high school season.
