Prospect Update: DaQuavion Walker (2020)
An explosive and dynamic point guard from Waterloo West, DaQuavion Walker has gone from relative unknown to one of the state’s top playmakers since the beginning of last spring.
Now, the athletic 6-foot-1 guard is heading into a 17u summer with a reputation, and should be turning a lot of heads as he plays with Martin Bros 17u.
Always a slasher with great speed and athleticism, Walker has been working to improve the finesse parts of his game of late.
“I’ve been working to improve with the mid-range and the dribble pull up, and I’m trying to get better at playing above the rim,” said Walker.
After sitting out the first five games of last season because of transfer rules, Walker came in and made an immediate impact with the Wahawks. He averaged 11.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Walker is one of nine leading scorers that return next season for a Wahawks team that could be considered among the 4A’s very best.
“We had a great season, we fell short at Substate against Cedar Falls, losing by five. Next year, though, will be the year for us,” said Walker.
In the meantime, Martin Bros 17u will be continuing its season this summer on the Under Armour Rise Circuit.
“Since it’s the Under Armour Rise, it’s really different. It takes a lot of heart and talent, and the tournaments we’ve been in recently, the refs just let you play. It makes you tougher, and makes you play harder, to my best potential,” said Walker.
Recruitment: “I’m hoping to pick up some offers, but right now I’m focused on taking my ACT so I can get my score out there to the colleges. I’m just going to keep doing me and working hard,” said Walker.
“I’ve just gotten a couple invites to camps and stuff like that so far, Minnesota State wants me to come to a camp June 13th. I’m just waiting for an offer.”
