Prospect Spotlight: Jamison Gruber (2022)
Council Bluffs Lincoln is a program that always has a young talent coming through the system, 6-foot-1 point guard Jamison Gruber is one of the next in line.
The heady point guard was impressive last month when we saw him at the Prep Hoops #HardWorkSZN Kickoff in Omaha, showing a flashy style of play and dropping some of the best domes we saw all weekend while playing with his grassroots team Southwest Iowa Select 15u.
“My strength would be my passing ability and my driving and dishing, and if I need to get a bucket I can go get one. I think I got a good pull-up jumper and I’m a sub-par 3-point shooter, but a strength is definitely my passing,” said Gruber.
“One of the things I definitely need to improve is my defense. I think I’m pretty good as an on-ball defender, but just losing focus sometimes with my off-ball defense has been a weakness for sure.”
As a freshman with Council Bluffs Lincoln, Gruber played with both the freshman squad and the JV unit. That’s a testament to how stacked the CB Lincoln program is.
“I felt like I definitely could have done better freshman season, otherwise I thought we did well. For JV we did really good as a team, I didn’t start, but I came off the bench and gave our team some energy and got my teammates the ball,” said Gruber.
He’s now playing his spring and summer ball as a floor general with Southwest Iowa Select 15u. His objective for the summer is simple: get a lot better.
“I’m definitely looking to go crazy this summer and work really hard, and hopefully I can crack some good minutes next season with the varsity,” said Gruber. And then just keep working my way up. It’s a process.”
