With offers from NC A&T, UNCW, Hofstra, Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, and Mount St. Mary’s since the start of April, Harvey’s recruitment is picking up steam and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. He also recently decided to transfer to Moravian Prep next year, adding another piece to a high-level team. Here’s more on how Harvey has felt about the travel season so far, as well as what’s ahead for him in the near future.
Having watched Loaded NC a good bit over the last two months, I’ve been impressed with Harvey’s efficient, low-maintenance production. He doesn’t need the ball a lot, runs in transition for easy baskets and has excelled in a 3-and-D type role for the team. He seems to feel the same way. When talking about his strengths, Harvey said “Definitely my ability to knock down the three. I’m a very consistent shooter and I can also drive and get to the rack to finish around the rim. I also take pride in my defense, every game I make it tough for our opponents to score.” His numbers hold up- Harvey is 3rd on Loaded in scoring at 10.9 PPG, doing so while shooting 53.2% from the field and 45.2% from 3 with 14 makes in 7 games. He has also shown defensive versatility, guarding multiple positions and impacting the game on that side of the floor with his length and ability to move.
Less than two weeks ago, Harvey announced that he will be attending Moravian Prep next year. That was a popular trend in a short time period, with multiple guys making the move to Moravian. Adding Harvey to go with guys like Josh Hall, Javarzia Belton, and others will be a scary sight for opponents. I watched them take down Huntington Prep in Atlanta last year, it will be fun to see what they do this upcoming season. It seems like Harvey is excited to be with Moravian and is ready to work. Explaining his reasoning behind the decision to transfer, Harvey said “Really just getting another year of maturity. I talked to Coach Lowe and he told me all day everyday they grind.” Harvey also recognizes the difference in strength between the high school and college game, and believes Moravian will help with that. “I need to be in the weight room so I can get a Division 1 body. That and all the other work they do at Moravian is what I need to be the player I want to be and hopefully that’ll push my game to another level,” he said. It is nice to hear those type of comments from a player. Acknowledging areas of improvement and wanting to be in a working environment bodes well for Harvey’s future.
As mentioned before, Harvey has seen an uptick in his recruitment this spring. He wants to continue that trend and attract new schools, but there are few that are in good position currently. “Right now definitely Murray State. The relationship I have with Coach Long is great. Also Quinnipiac and Mount St. Mary’s,” he said in regards to schools that are standing out to him. Harvey has higher aspirations as well, citing that he would like to be recruited by HM schools. “I feel I have worked hard enough to deserve recognition from those schools. But, I will continue to work to make sure I get those schools.” He is already trending upwards, and with his move to Moravian, Harvey could very well start to attract bigger schools.
Harvey approaches the game the right way and has proven to be a valuable, productive player for Team Loaded. Now that the spring portion of the travel season has concluded, June will be an important time for players. I am encouraged to see how Harvey and the rest of Loaded NC progress between now and the July live period. They have all the pieces to make some noise in Birmingham and California.
