Jon Tillman and his back to back double-double averages have graduated and Jackson is preparing to step up and fill that void. Twombly summarized his game for me, “I am a 6-6 big man who can shoot the mid range and hit the three ball. I can use my body to get easy layups.”
Since seeing Twombly last fall and multiple viewings this spring AAU season, I’d agree with his assessment of his strengths and weaknesses as a player, “My strengths are my height, footwork and jump shot. I also have a nice layup package. I am a little out of shape and I need to work on my ball handling.” If Jackson can improve his conditioning, he can be an impact player this season in the 11th region. Reflecting on his Freshman campaign, Twombly said “My high school season was good. We lost to Scott County in the regional tournament. I had a game high of 17 against them. I also was second in the state in field goal percentage at 71 percent for the season.”
For his 15u AAU season, Jackson is playing with the 2022 State Champions DM Elite. He told me that he’s been playing well and scoring about 15 points per game but has been injured throughout the season with a back injury so he hasn’t been playing full time. Jackson said he’s been invited to some small colleges for their elite camps but hasn’t gotten a ton of recruitment yet. Twombly’s main goal is actually a team goal. He wants to get Frankfort to Rupp Arena. If he can get in top shape and be the dominant post he has shown flashes of being, Jackson can maybe get them there in a relatively wide open 11th region.
