Last year, they won 18 games with Grady Lewis Grady Lewis 6'7" | PF Sunnyslope | 2021 State AZ playing a big role for the team. Despite only being a Sophomore, the 6’7 PF/C averaged nearly 7 points and 5 rebounds per game.
As the season progressed, Lewis got more and more comfortable. He played at a higher level in a tough region. With a year under his belt, he should be prepared to play a bigger role for the group.
In the off-season, Lewis plays club basketball for the 16U Firestorm Nation. Lewis was solid for the group during the spring and looks to use that to jump start a strong June ball season with Sunnyslope.
Despite his strong play and size, he noted that he has not received any offers or interest at this point. However, do not expect that to be the case for much longer.
Sunnyslope has a strong tradition of teaching its big men to play physically. He has good strength and much improved footwork. Further, his body control is solid and he moves well laterally. He also has a good motor.
As far as his collegiate interest is concerned, Lewis noted that “education always comes first”. Moreover, he wants to go to a school that offers “diversity”.
Lewis would also like to attend a school that offers a degree in “Applied Mathematics”. In addition to possessing good size, strength, and skill set; Lewis also stated that he has a 3.0 GPA.
While 18 wins is quite a few for many high school programs, that is a step below what Sunnyslope is typically accustomed to. However, with Lewis returning as well as other key prospects, Sunnyslope should feel as though they are a legitimate contender for a state title.
Lewis will get a chance to show his improvement from this past club season in front of college coaches at the Section 7 event in June.
