At 6’4, Pavlik has the height to play an inside-out game, but has the all-around skill and athleticism necessary to play any position 2-4.
“I am an effective spot up shooter and am establishing a shot off the dribble,” Pavlik says. “I can also score on the pick and roll or pick and pop.”
To that end, Pavlik is shining this summer while running with SSA Elite 17U White squad and says the experience has helped prepare him for his senior season and beyond.
“The SSA coaching staff is truly one of the best out there,” he said. “They are constantly pushing me and helping me implement new aspects into my game. My teammates and I work well together and we continue to get better each tournament and make each other better.
“This summer season has helped me get better by playing some really good competition. Guarding and being guarded by some extremely talented players, whether during practice or at a tournament, will definitely pay off this upcoming high school season.”
Pavlik says he is spending the offseason working on his ball handling and improving at creating his own shot off the dribble.
“Being a relatively smaller forward, being able to dribble and create my own shot helps me to score and create when I’m being guarded by guys who are taller than I am,” Pavlik said.
Pavlik says his parents, friends and teammates have had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date. He says he is enjoys watching basketball and spends a lot of time studying players and highlight films. He says he has learned the most from Golden State stars Klay Thompson and Steph Curry.
“Being two knockdown shooters, they have to work hard and move without the ball to get open shots,” he says. “Watching them has given me ways to get myself open shots as well. Someone who I have been watching more of lately has been Paul George. His is a great shooter as well as shot creator and that is what I am working toward.”
Pavlik says he has not yet heard from any college programs, but hops that will chance with a strong summer and senior season.
“I would like to continue playing after high school, (but) right now I am just enjoying my summer with SSA and preparing for my upcoming senior season,” he said.
