John was the topic of conversation a lot this weekend at the third leg of the Under Armour Association as he showed off his improved jumper, his post and rebounding skills. At 6’10 with tremendous length he does a lot of things you want a post man to do but his ability to shoot the basketball really stood out in my eyes.
“I have been practicing them a lot. I have been living in the gym and just trying to practice my shot and to perfect my jump shot. My coaches have really helped me a lot so the hours and hours in the gym have paid off.”
He caught up with us on how his high school season went and it looks like he is bringing a lot of those traits from his high school season to his AAU team, Team Thrill, “The season was good. I tried to do a lot during every game like playing hard and just doing whatever I can to help my team win.”
He continued to talk about his game.
“I try to make the best out of each possession and play my position the best I can. I always want to make my team better so whatever it takes, I will go out there and do it.”
Virginia Tech was the first high major program to pull the trigger on offering John but we only expect more and more to continue. He talked to us about what the Virginia Tech offer meant to him.
“It is a good school, it felt really good to get that offer so I was really happy.”
One school that he has visited unofficially is Florida Atlantic, “It is a good school. I went there on an unofficial visit and it is a really nice school.”
Look for Ojiako to earn more offers and for him to start visiting more schools when the AAU season concludes.
