Henningsgard, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Hillsboro/Central Valley, is playing grassroots with ND Attack Green, and just as he’s been during every winter the last few years, he’s been highly productive. ND Attack Green started slow but has started playing better in recent weeks.
“I think it has gone good,” Henningsgard said. “I feel like I’ve played well. I’m just trying to get better each and every day around.”
Henningsgard isn’t the biggest or quickest guy, but he’s smooth with the ball, has deep range, a quick release and he’s smart. He’s very good at using subtle fakes, angles and change of pace to get to spots on the floor where he can do damage or gain an advantage on defenders. His 3-point shooting affords him opportunity as it forces defenders to play him closer than they might another player and he seems to be under control and ready to make the right play at all times.
The enhanced competition he’s seeing this summer is helping hone those skills even further.
“It has been really valuable,” Henningsgard said of the competition. “The better the competition, the better I am getting.”
As good as he is now, Henningsgard isn’t satisfied. He wants to keep improving and is continually adding to his game.
“I have been working on my outside shot as a whole but I’m really trying to get my mid range jumper better,” said Henningsgard. “I’m trying to get my shot quicker and advance some of my attack moves to be able to score easier. I’m working on a lot of parts of my game though.”
