The star forward for Racine Case is one of the better athletes — one of the better dunkers — in the 2022 class. He played with their varsity last season, coming off the bench at the forward position while averaging 5.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
But, while his averages don’t jump off the page, his work ethic does.
“Amari’s work ethic is a large part of how he has developed on the basketball court,” said Jacob Berce, the head coach for Racine Case. “Before the basketball season, he was in the weight room daily to improve his strength and agility. During the season, he was dedicated to improving his post game, shot, and finishing around the rim.”
His subtle increase in numbers through his freshman season back up Berce’s claims. He averaged 3.7 points per game through the first eleven games, scoring zero in three of those outing. Jedkins took a major step at this point in the season, raising his scoring average to 7.5 points per game while hitting four of his five total threes during that stretch.
He took another stride with Phenom University this spring, playing alongside some of the nation’s elite. “I have become a better player playing with Phenom University because I have got the experience of being beside Jalen Johnson and Patrick Baldwin.” Said Jedkins. “They just showed me that hard works pays off and they make me wanna work harder and I got better at a lot of different things on the court on defense and offense.”
He’s proved himself as a top-five player in the class through strong rebounding, gaudy athleticism, and his leadership too, “help my team through the good and bad parts of the game”.
Jedkins looks to carry his improvements into next school season. Racine Case has an elite core of players in Jedkins, Jakobe Thompson, and Terryon Brumby, all of which are underclassmen. The future looks bright for that squad, but Jedkins is in win-now mode. “We are expecting a lot of things next season. We are going to work to make it to state this year and try to win as a team all year.”
If his rapid improvements denote anything about the upcoming season, it’s that a monumental turnaround from last seasons 13-10 record is likely with him on the roster.
