EYBL Spotlight: Donte Houston
Three-star forward Donte Houston ha previous experience playing up on 17U last summer. However, he never experienced 17U basketball on the EYBL circuit before. In his first year, Houston has taken great advantage of the platform. The 6-foot-8 athletic big man had a solid showing in Session III, averaging nearly 11 points and seven rebounds for Drive Nation.
“I feel like I have been playing great,” says Houston on his transition to EYBL basketball. “The difference between this summer and last summer is the competition and the amount of exposure I am receiving. I enjoy it.”
It is hard to argue with his statement. Since the spring season began, Houston has picked up offers from Saint Louis, Seton Hall, and TCU.
IN DONTE’S WORDS
Saint Louis: I like the way they play. They play up and down just like my high school (Garland Lakeview Centennial). The coaches like the way I value my teammates and see me as a potential leader.
Seton Hall: “The coaches like my versatility on both ends. Defensively, they feel that I can guard each position on the floor when necessary. Offensively, they like how I can step out and shoot the three and handle the ball.”
TCU: “I have taken visits on campus and worked out in Fort Worth before. The campus is great and they really made me feel like it was home. At the time of my visit, Kaden Archie was there and he talked to me a lot about going there. We connected.”
FINAL THOUGHTS
When talking about his goals for the summer, Houston states, “I want to continue to play well and earn more scholarship offers.” Whoever does receive a commitment from Houston, will be getting an athletic forward who is defensively aware on help-side. He is bouncy around the rim and is a constant threat for putbacks and finishing dump off passes. His team not qualifying for Peach Jam hurts, but he will still be able to impact the rest of his games this summer with his motor and ability to space the floor in the right situations.
