Saturday morning saw individual excellence at The Hive, one of the two facilities hosting the event. Please note that the subsequent evaluations in this story are subjective, fragmented, and do not represent a cohesive judgement of the 2021 class.
Jade Watkins 2021 Oklahoma Wolfpack/Newcastle combo
- Combo point-forward
- Three-level scorer
Jade Watkins mentioned to me earlier this morning that he has been working to develop his shooting game to become a more-complete scorer. His claims were verified in a mid-day performance against Oklahoma Showtime in which the incoming junior scored 20 points.
Josh Price 2021 Oklahoma Power Elite/Edmond North wing
- Spot-up shooter
- Efficient scorer
Josh Price has drastically improved his stock this summer as a spot-up shooter from the wing, and alas, Price’s Saturday morning performance against OK Run PWP Red 16U was not only evident of the improvement in his game, but exceeded expectations. He knocked down six 3-pointers in the contest to finish with 22 points.
Landry Harris 2021 Oklahoma Power Elite/Edmond North point guard
- Ball-handler
- Slasher
- Efficient scorer
If you want to see the prototypical example of a s coring on-ball guard, Landry Harris’s game against OK Run PWP Red 16U on Saturday morning would have been the game to watch. Harris knocked down shots he was comfortable with, refraining from taking unnecessary shots, but still loaded the scoring book in his 19-point performance.
Anthony Bowen 2021 OK Run PWP Red/Choctaw point guard (pictured above)
- Floor general
- Fast, athletic guard
Anthony Bowen hit the ground running this weekend and hasn’t looked back in the first bit of action, including a morning performance against Oklahoma Power Elite. Bowen reminded me a lot of a Russell Westbrook-mold of point guard in that session; he rebounds the ball well, is a phenomenal down-floor passer, and is a relentless scorer.
