Northstar Q&A: MN Fury Zurn 17U
This is the fifth installment of the Northstar Q&A series. We’ve been talking with MN AAU coaches new and old, and Pete Zurn is one of the guys who has been around the scene for quite a while. He’s a very trusted guy within MN Fury, and he ran through his 2019 team with NHR below.
Alex’s Take: Fury Zurn 17U has had a good spring so far, racking up a 23-3 record with its only MN loss being to Northern Lakers last weekend. Nate Heise has committed to D1 Northern Iowa since this video was taken, and we see Jacob Hutson as another kid who will likely pick from D1 programs when it’s all done (Appalachian State and George Washington are the latest to reach out to him).
Charlie Katona has Citadel reaching out as well as lots of lower D1 and strong D2 interest, with Duluth making a strong push. Brady Williams holds four D2 offers (Moorhead, Concordia-St. Paul, St. Cloud State, Sioux Falls). Zach Lea, Cam Steele and John Henry are all strong NSIC prospects and Ryan Samuelson just picked up a D2 football offer from Mankato, meaning he’ll have to make a tough decision on his college sport.
This is a team with good size, high bball IQ and a nice cohesiveness. You can catch Zurn 17U in-state for Great Plains Alliance (St. Cloud) and the Prep Hoops Finale (Twin Cities), where nearly the entire NSIC will be watching intently.
