C/O NY2LATHE NORTH OAKLAND WOLFPACK PERSPECTIVE
“North Oakland Wolfpack – Black 16U team answered the bell in the first NCAA live period. The team travelled to Wisconsin where they participated in the open bracket play of the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza. ‘It was the first tournament that we were able to have multiple practices that everyone attended’ said Coach Robinson. He continued by saying that he really wanted to see what the team could do once everyone understood how we wanted to play. The key for us is to let our defense start our offense and for the most part the boys committed to playing that style of defense this past weekend.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
“The Wolfpack opened the tournament with a 52-45 win over Mercury Elite. Branden Thomas (Henry Ford II) and Zach Townsend (Oxford HS) led the team in scoring with 15 points apiece while Bennie Crenshaw (Waterford Kettering HS), one of the team leaders, dropped 8 points and 8 assist. The Wolfpack stumbled in their 2nd game losing to Wi Shark. ‘I thought the boys were complacent and didn’t match the others team energy’ said Coach Robinson. After an intense conversation with the team there was no more complacency from this bunch. The boys strung together 3 straight wins in bracket play defeating Wolfpack -16U Purple, Wisconsin Swing, and Knights Elite 47 -41 in the Championship game.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
C/O North Oakland WolfpackROSTER
Isayah Harris: “6”1, combo guard from Clarkston HS really turned it on Saturday/Sunday. He was quick, assertive, and very aggressive which led to him scoring 12 points, 20 points, and 12 points in the final 3 games. His ability to attack the rim and run the court led to easy baskets. His strength is his athleticism and his passion. The kid wants to win, he wants to be successful, and more importantly he loves playing the game the right way. Isayah is very unselfish and the ultimate team player.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
Bennie Crenshaw: “5”11, point guard from Waterford Kettering was phenomenal on both ends of the court. Defensively, Bennie made the other guards very uncomfortable. Offensively, Bennie picked his spots. His priority was to get his teammates involved, however, when a bucket was needed Bennie attacked and attacked. Bennie is very smooth. His best offensive weapon is his mid-range shot which is a lost art. Bennie led the team in assist and was the leading scorer in 2 of the 5 games. Bennie was a horse in the championship game finishing with a double double (15 points / 10 assists)” – North Oakland Wolfpack
Zach Townsend: “6”4, point guard from Oxford HS is and was the Wolfpack’s most versatile player. The kid is 6”4 and can guard all five positions. Defensively, Zach has great instinct. He anticipates and plays the passing lanes well. Zach’s strength is that he is a very smart player and he doesn’t solely rely on his athleticism. Zach works very hard at being good 3-point shooter, but will tomahawk one home if needed. Zach finished the weekend with several highlight plays.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
Branden Thomas, “6”2, and Mark Watson Jr 6”4: “Are two new faces to the Wolfpack squad this year. Branden Thomas out of Henry Ford II, plays with a toughness and passion that’s hard to match. The kid bullies’ other guards in the post and is a consistent shooter from the outside. Mark Watson Jr 6”4, from Groves HS plays the forward position for the Wolfpack. Mark is an undersized forward at 6”4, but the kid is relentless. Mark is quick off his feet and very active on the glass. Mark is a kid that coaches love because you don’t have to run any plays for him. Mark manufactures his own points by being active on the boards and playing with energy.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
Cole Wilson: “5”10 guard out of Clarkston HS is the team’s best shooter. In the championship game Cole was 3-3 from deep in the first half. His shooting changed the game and really got the team going. Cole has a quick release and near perfect form. His ability to knock down shots really prevents teams from playing solid help defense.”
– North Oakland Wolfpack
Luke Scherler: “6”8 center out of Clarkston HS is one of the team bigs. Luke has strong hands and has good shot blocking abilities. Luke is a reliable help defender and continues to become a threat offensively. Luke can hit the elbow shot and is working hard to perfect his jump hook and other low post moves. At 6”8, this kid will surprise many in the very near future.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
Caleb Webb: “5”10 guard out of Norte Dame Prep is tenacious and pesky defensively and consistent offensively. Caleb played an important role off the bench. He’s the type of kid that gives you the energy you need off the bench. He’s smart and very coachable.” – North Oakland Wolfpack
“The Wolfpack roster is rounded out by two more important pieces Connor McKouen, 6”3 wing out of Clarkston HS (who injured himself in the first game) and Blake Kosin, 6”7 center out of Clarkston HS (who missed due to football obligations). Connor is a lengthy wing with a smooth stroke. Connor has major bounce is deceitfully athletic and a joy to watch when he turns it on. Blake Kosin, a D-1 football prospect, has a big strong body that allows him to bang in the paint and gobble up rebounds. Offensively, Blake can score inside, but also extend to the perimeter and hit big shoots. Blake is the team’s enforcer and does all the often needed dirty work for the team.”
