Sunday at Nike EYBL Dallas, I had the opportunity to talk with Todd about numerous subjects, including his travel season, possibly transferring to a school in Broward County, Florida, for his senior season and what his timeline is for picking a college. Here is our conversation:
Q: So you guys have won three in a row here in Dallas. You needed this to make a run to get yourself in to Peach Jam. Talk about the last few games.
A: The first game [the loss to Phenom University on Friday] we came out kind of slow. But we realized the importance of this tournament and the importance of playing together and everything is just starting to come together. We’re starting to jell and it’s starting to look real good for us.
Q: You had 24 points against Phenom. Today a big game [28 points against E1T1] … you came through. How have you been feeling?
A: I kinda just been switching my role. You know, kind of coming from a team like Trinity [Academy in Raleigh, N.C.,] and being everything. And now I’ve got teammates I can trust. So I’ve been facilitating more. And then that first game I had 24 but it was like a spread-out 24. So I am learning how to play the game with other special players like Scottie Barnes and Antwan [Burnett], and all of those guys.
Q: Speaking of Trinity, too early or do you know if you will be back there [in 2019-2020]?
A: I’ll definitely be back at Trinity.
Q: Being from Broward County, I had heard that you looked around at University School and American Heritage?
A: I looked around but I will be staying at home at Trinity.
Q: College-wise, then, anything new of late?
A: Not since the top 10 [when in mid-April he named Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Memphis, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Vanderbilt, UCF and UCLA as his final 10 schools].
Q: Can you talk a little bit about what you are looking for in a college?
A: I’m just looking for that home. You know, where I feel like the team has my best interest, the coach has my best interest and they’re going to help me get to the next level and develop me as a player and a leader.
Q: Are you close at all to making a decision?
A: I’m trying to focus on AAU right now, trying to win Peach Jam with my team, And then after that, once things settle down, I will probably look more into schools and things of that nature.
