Nike EYBL Atlanta: Players that helped themselves
ATLANTA, GA — Session I of the 2019 NIKE EYBL took place this past weekend and the Texas talent did not disappoint. Yesterday, D1 Circuit released their All-Atlanta Session Awards and multiple prospects came away with some “hardware.” Here we further recognize and rank those prospects and others who have helped themselves during the live period on the EYBL circuit:
9. Malik Henry Malik Henry 6'8" | PF Longview | 2020 State #417 Nation TX – Drive Nation
The East Texas forward is bound to make a big jump in the 2020 Player Rankings. He has exceeded expectations playing on the circuit and will only get better competing against the best competition high school basketball has to offer. Henry picked up a Division I offer from Samford this past week; the first of many more to come.
8. Jakobe Coles Jakobe Coles 6'7" | PF Guyer | 2020 State #143 Nation TX – Texas Titans
The ever-so skilled Coles continues to prove many scouts wrong with his ability to produce. He is in the process of solidifying himself as a high major prospect while maintaining his status as the second best power forward in the state. Coles recently has been offered by Notre Dame. A great offer for the three-star forward who has some Bonzie Colson within his game.
7. Greg Brown Greg Brown 6'8" | PF Vandegrift | 2020 State #4 Nation TX III – Texas Titans (All-Atlanta Second Team)
In his EYBL debut, Greg Brown Greg Brown 6'8" | PF Vandegrift | 2020 State #4 Nation TX did what Greg Brown Greg Brown 6'8" | PF Vandegrift | 2020 State #4 Nation TX does. The five-star forward proved that he is not of this earth and that his ceiling is not the roof. Because of this, it is likely that Brown will graduate high school not only as a top five prospect in the country but a potential NBA lottery prospect at that.
6. Jake Milkereit Jake Milkereit 6'5" | SG Bishop Lynch | 2020 State #425 Nation TX – Drive Nation
Milkereit’s performances have not been talked about enough. The 6-foot-4 sniper plays well with others because of his skill of playing off the ball. He sets up well and consistently connects on open opportunities from downtown. The Bishop Lynch product was rewarded with a Stephen F. Austin offer after having a few solid outings last weekend.
5. Braelon Bush Braelon Bush 5'6" | PG Silsbee | 2020 State #452 Nation TX – Houston Hoops (Nike EYBL Atlanta All-Breakout Team)
Heart over height. I was stupid to question the 5-foot-6 guard’s decision to play on the EYBL circuit. No matter the setting, he rises to occasion. There are so many positive adjectives to describe Bush and what he brings to the table (fearless, quick, strong, tough, explosive, etc.). Since the Live Period, Houston Baptist and Longwood have offered Bush after performing well these past two weekends.
4. R.J. Hampton – Drive Nation
Hampton equipped buckets in a variety of ways throughout his first and last session on the EYBL Circuit. He sliced through defenses with ease to score and was hard to contain when he was clicking from all cylinders on the perimeter. The top-five prospect has recently reclassed to 2019 and has a great chance to be slotted at the number one spot in the final state rankings update.
3. Langston Love – Houston Hoops (Nike EYBL Atlanta All-Underclassmen Team)
Love came into Session I as the number one shooting guard in the state for his class. By the time the weekend came to a close, he backed up his prime positional status and made his case for a spot within the top three of the Prep Hoops Texas 75. The four-star guard was the fourth most productive player at the opening session according to Draft Express. His productivity was rewarded with offers from Houston and Oklahoma.
2. Micah Peavy Micah Peavy 6'7" | SF Duncanville | 2020 State #58 Nation TX – Pro Skills (All-Atlanta First Team)
Peavy has taken full advantage of being the go-to guy on Pro Skills and is effortlessly thriving. Already, labeled as top-fifty prospect nationally, Peavy will more than likely make a jump in the national rankings after his opening weekend on the circuit. The four-star wing has recently re-opened his recruitment and schools have been eager to offer since. Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas have already extended offers to the 2019 UIL 6A State Champion MVP.
1. Cade Cunningham – Texas Titans (Nike EYBL Atlanta Most Valuable Player/All-Atlanta First Team)
Last month, I wrote an article claiming that Cade Cunningham should be officially labeled as a point guard. Now I am claiming that he should be labeled as the best point guard in high school basketball. The top-five prospect is extremely skilled and poised at 6-foot-7. He does everything at a high level and makes others better in the process of doing so. Cunningham led his squad to a 4-0 record last weekend, letting other teams know that his team will be the favorites to win it all in North Augusta this summer.
