The Favorite. Minnesota Heat Tauer. Minnesota Heat Tauer is 22-2 on the season without a loss to a team in Minnesota. They have lost to ECI Prospects (North Dakota) and Team Factory (Nebraska) but nobody in Minnesota. This weekend the locals get a shot to try and take down the group of guards (Trey Longstreet and Ryan Dufault) feeding the hungry monsters (Andrew Morgan and Will Tschetter).
The Top Seeds. In addition to Heat Tauer, the other top seeds are top ten squads Magic Hannah, West Central United Select, and WOTN Bertsch. Each of these teams has prospects to be aware of too. WOTN is the fourth ranked team in the state but they’ve lost to Heat Tauer twice. WOTN 6-foot-7 big Joshua Streit has the potential to be a top ten kid in state plus Eli Green, Kip Schetnan, and Drew Maloney are among the talented WOTN guards.
The Magic is coming off a solid weekend in St Louis on the Prep Hoops Circuit building to a 20-5 record. Henry Shannon III, Addison Metcalf, and Noah Friedt are among the top Magic players. A team that we are looking forward to see is West Central United Select. EGF guard Sam Votava has been a top northern Minnesota player for two years, Isaiah Morris is setting shooting records, and up front Broden Lien (6-foot-7) and Finn Diggins make a tough paint pair.
Final Four Potentials: That group starts with Crossfire Stone and Gain Elite who will have to win their initial two games and then get past Magic Hannah and WOTN Bertsch respectively. Lightning Studer is ranked 12th in the sate and if they make the elite eight we get a true North (MN) vs South (MN) match-up. Then there is 14th ranked Heat Wiley, team that with two wins gets the good old fashioned program vs program upset chance. Wiley will have to get through Fury Syverson though, a team ranked right behind them at 15th.
When? There are four games at Burnsville High School tomorrow night at the 16u level but the rest of the action is Saturday and Sunday at Wayzata High. Quarterfinals are at 3;35 on Saturday at Wayzata, semi-finals at 11:15 Sunday, title game at 2:30 Sunday.
