With a shooting performance from these kids, their mothers out there should be very proud. Below are some of the top shooters I got the chance to get out and see this weekend at the Mayhem in the Plex located in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
The first player that comes to mind is a young man that put on a performance in the final four of the 15U bracket. CJ Booker– 5’5- Texas Impact 15U-2022-Arl. Seguin. Don’t let his size full you, his heart is as big as the state of Texas. His game, just as big, hitting a game high 29 points against a good team in Dallas Showtyme. The crowd favorite, Booker reminded me of a young Steph Curry, same style of play, same size of heart. He can read the defense and uses screens to get open. At a young age, he’s already mastered moving with out the ball to get open. With his handling on point, he’s very shifty and creates space. Quick release, great follow through, high arch. Booker will be one of the best shooters in the state with this pace his on.
Ethan Scott, 2021, 5’10- Team Buddy Buckets 16U, is a no brainer. I think by now, coaches and fans are starting to see the buzz that’s been going around on Scott. Putting on a shooting clinic through out the whole weekend, I’m confident that Scott averages 4 threes a game. Give credit to his teammates as well, they know how to find Scott in transition. A perfect form shooter, feet square, shoulders square and forward, high release, nothing but net. Not standing in the half court, defenders better face guard Scott, if not, once you look away, he’ll be standing in the corner draining the 3. Elite shooter, best I’ve seen at all levels so far.
Getting down to 14U, Exavion Harris, 5’6, 2023- S.T.A.T. Elite was the best 14U shooter I witnessed. I noticed at the 14U level, you run into more kids that can shoot the ball. The one who had the “it” factor was Harris. Hitting big shot, after big shot, he rattled off three triples in a row. Harris brought his team to victory by catching fire and not holding back. At 14, he had lift on his jump shot and used his legs, which is rare at that age limit. An elite shooter in Harris, I look for him to be a prospect in years to come.
Breaking down 17U, it wasn’t easy picking one out of this group. As guys get older, they become more athletic and more skilled at attacking the rim. A kid that does have the shot that stood out to me was Jallen Willians, 6’4, 2020, Dallas Carter HS. Playing for Dallas Showtyme, being a knock down shooter is just what they need. When he is on fire Showtyme will be hard to beat. One of his strengths is being able to play with out the ball. Willians can also read the defense, while coming off ball screens. This will certainly draw interest from college coaches. Being at 6’4 and an elevated jump shot, he has range to shoot over most defenders. Willians, no doubt was one of the top shooters at the Mayhem in the Plex.
Last, but definitely not least, comes Parker Conitz, 6’4, 2020, Seminole HS- Team Speights 17U. A pure shooter, standing at 6’4, Conitz is going to be a great knock down shooter for a university. A spot up shooter, defenders better not help off on him. Shooting a high percentage, Conitz does a good job at making himself available when players drive. Getting his feet set, knees bent, ready for the kick out, his form is pure and his shot is money. Watch for Conitz to have great summer, with a lot of threes made!
