Matt’s Oklahoma State Tournament Saturday Standouts
Saturday the gym was filled with college coaches and prospects from Oklahoma. Below are a few of the prospects who stood out for several different reasons.
Isaac McDoulett 2022 Burner U Guard
McDoulett was a very skilled 6’4 prospect considering his age. Burner U put together a great game against Oklahoma Power in the afternoon session in large part due to the scoring outburst of McDoulett. He drove the ball to the basket strong using his length to his advantage.
Trendon Tisdale 2020 Next Level Up Guard
Tisdale shot the ball lights out from distance on Saturday! He thrives getting to his spots setting his feet and making the net swish. On the day Tisdale shot 54% from three-point range.
CJ Campbell 2020 Oklahoma Eagles Point Guard
Campbell is a very smart player on the floor using every little advantage he can get. Slashing to the basket or getting there off the dribble quickly is what makes him so tough. Campbell is going to be a good find for a small college.
Adante Holliman 2022 Team Griffin Point Guard
Holliman has been a pleasant surprise out of McAlester this spring. Over the years I watched a much smaller Holliman play in the 15U level from around the 6th grade on. You can tell that playing up all of those years and getting drug through the mud a little has paid off big time. Holliman now playing the correct age is years ahead of most guards on the court at the 15U level. The IQ and quickness Holliman possesses separate him from the pack. Holliman has my attention over the next three years of his high school career.
Damian Collins 2021 Team Griffin Post
Collins was Mr. Dunk Show today. Literally, it felt as if Collins dunked every single opportunity that was presented to him. It does not take a rocket scientist to see why Collins has tons of offers from High Major NCAA Division I programs. The length and athleticism of Collins allow him to rebound, score, and defend at a high level. The university that lands Collins will get an impact player in the paint.
Dailyn Spencer 2020 Next Level Up Point Guard
Spencer is a smaller Point Guard with great speed flying around the court with the ball in his hands. He is great at finding openings for his teammates. When left open from the outside he made the opponent pay. Spencer could be a fit at the small college level.
RJ Forney 2020 Next Level Up
Forney was the energizer bunny for Next Level Up on Saturday. He was all over the court making plays. Where he made the biggest impact was beating his opponent off the dribble to the basket. Forney will be a college player at the small college level.
Caden Hale 2020 Tulsa Hawks Point Guard
Hale plays with a touch of everything mixed in his game. He caught my eye with a sharp shooting performance from distance. What also stood out is how much better he has become at seeing the floor and finding open guys playing the Point. There is always an adjustment from playing the two to the one and we are seeing Hale start to turn the corner. Hale should pick up heavy NAIA and D2 interest this summer. Oh and for college coaches reading he has a 28 on his ACT.
Paul Otieno 2020 KC Pacers Forward
Otieno is a superb athlete at the Forward spot for the KC Pacers. His hops are out of the gym allowing him to impact things on the boards, defense, and around the basket. Otieno was a human highlight reel throwing down multiple jams that left in the crowd in shock.
Tai Johnson 2020 KC Pacers Point Guard
Johnson diced up the defense on Saturday using his quickness to blow past defenders. The change of pace he plays with helps him get to the basket. He has a good motor on him which adds to his value as a player. Johnson is going to be a college prospect at the small college level.
Jarrett Grisham 2022 Buddy Buckets West Guard
Coming off an injury from his high school season Grisham is still getting back to 100%. That did not slow him down from a strong showing on Saturday. Grisham did a number of positive things on the floor shooting and defense were two of his top areas. The hops of Grisham allow him to contest shots better than most players his size. Grisham is going to be a good small college prospect in the 2022 Class.
Septien Reese 2020 PWP Red Point Guard
Mr. Creator would be a great title for Reece. With the ball in his hands, Reece was able to create offense not only for himself but for all of his teammates. He was dropping dimes all day long. Reece is going to be a good small college prospect for colleges to take a look at.
Kaleb Murry 2019 SA Islanders Guard
Finishing around the rim off the dribble was Murry’s specialty. He was constantly attacking off the bounce using his speed to blow past the defense. Murry dropped 28 points against a good Buddy Buckets squad. He was the best 2019 prospect I have seen at the event this weekend.
Luke Gunns 2020 Oklahoma Wolfpack Forward
Gunns is a mismatch Forward for the Oklahoma Wolfpack. It is easy to see why Paden his high school made a run in the state tournament this past year. When his team can get him the ball inside Gunns did a great job of finishing inside at a high rate. Gunns is a prospect who is flying way under the radar due to the fact of he plays in Class B. The exposure he is now getting in Grassroots basketball should propel his recruitment. Gunns projects to the small college level D2 or NAIA programs should give him a look.
