His status and “ratings” among the national recruiting analysts – most of which are finally catching on to how good he’s been – will, no doubt, climb by way of his efforts at this weekend’s Pangos All-American Camp (Cerritos College) and during the June 11-15 NBPA Top 100 Camp on the Charlottesville campus of the National Champion University of Virginia Cavaliers.
But the 6-foot-3 Martinez – who migrated to the U.S. from Costa Rica – decided to bring his recruiting to a halt Wednesday by announcing that he plans to sign with the University of Utah in November.
Martinez, who could probably fall out of bed, put on his shoes, shorts and jersey, and score 30 points 10 minutes later, said the Utes coaches “were the first guys who started recruiting me hard, before a lot of others (coaches) didn’t know who I was,” he said.
“And they were the first staff that offered me a scholarship.”
Martinez is certainly an “upper-tier athlete”, who gets his jumper off quickly — from distance – and with usually high accuracy, using while jumping over the top of a defender so that a close out and “high hand” does little to deter him.
He’s currently the No. 4 player in the Prep Hoops SoCal rankings for the Class of 2020.
