The skilled rim protector has enjoyed two very productive sessions while playing for Mac Irvin Fire in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League and the scholarship offers have been rolling in. He has more than a dozen Division I offers with many more on the horizon as he continues to shine on the big stage of the EYBL.
After an excellent junior year in which he led Trinity to the Class 3 state quarterfinals, Kalkbrenner started to pick up Division I offers from regional schools such as Missouri, Saint Louis and Illinois in late March and early April. Soon after came offers from Kansas State and Xavier.
The interest in Kalkbrenner really started to mushroom after the first weekend of EYBL play in Atlanta where he led the league in shot blocking at 3.5 swats per game as well as his nine points and seven rebounds a game. Kalkbrenner continued his strong play last weekend in Indianapolis as he has helped Mac Irvin to a 7-1 record. He had nine points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in a victory over Team Final and 14 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks in a victory over Renaissance.
And the offers have continued to come in from the likes of Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Creighton and Coastal Carolina.
Through eight games in EYBL play, Kalkbrenner is averaging 8.6 points, nine rebounds and 3.9 blocks a game while shooting 64 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line.
