Des Moines Hoover has another impressive forward coming through the ranks. Much like Hoover bigs Malachai Canada and Doug Wilson in the past, Diew is a lean 6’5 post who can control the glass and score in the paint. Diew, though, was also showing an ability to step out and hit a 10-foot jumper with regularity, and even hit a turnaround jumper in our viewing of him.
Maada Brewah, 6’3 G/F (Kingdom Hoops Navy 15u)
A Dowling Catholic product, Brewah has the build of a linebacker, but moves with fluidity and has a nice handle. His body type allows him to bully smaller players and his ability to finish around the rim makes him a dynamic scoring threat.
Caden Stoffer, 6’4 G (Iowa Mavericks-Fisher 16u)
Perhaps the most impressive prospect we saw on Saturday, Stoffer — who is committed to Iowa for baseball — is a quick and athletic wing with great size. He pulled off a baseline jam through traffic to show off his athleticism, and scored an impressive 10 points all at the rim.
Kyle Kelley, 6’4 G (Iowa Mavericks-Fisher 16u)
A big and athletic wing, Kelley was the leading scorer during an Iowa Mavericks win over Iowa Dynasty, going for 14 points. He showed an ability to score from deep and while attacking the rim and scored some clutch points late to help seal a win over a tough Iowa Flight unit.
Kole Wehde, 6’2 SG (Iowa Flight)
The best shooter we saw on Saturday, Wehde is big enough to get off his shot with ease and has a pretty stroke when he he lets if fly. The Ankeny sophomore canned five 3s in a narrow loss to Iowa Mavericks-Fisher. Wehde’s three second half 3s helped keep the game close.
Christian Withrow, 6′ G (Iowa Dynasty 16u)
The Clear Creek-Amana guard was impressive with his handle, and showed great quickness when attacking the hoop. His mid-range was on point, Withrow canned several short-to mid-range Js during a win over Kingdom Hoops Red.
Antwon French, 6’5 PF (Iowa Dynasty 16u)
A transfer into Iowa City High from Missouri’s Marshall High School, French looks like he’ll be a really nice addition for the Little Hawks. He certainly made a great initial impression on us, scoring the game’s first 10 points during a win over Kingdom Hoops Red. He was hitting mid-range jumpers often and controlling the glass.
