Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top wing players in the 17U division.
35-Blake Farmer, 6’6’, 2020, Perry Lecompton, Grandstand Elite
Farmer has good size for a big and he puts it to good use. He bodies up opponents in the post and has a soft touch around the rim. He passes away from the ball and has some no look moves in him. A hard-working guy who can get buckets when he has the ball down low.
6-Connor MacDonald, 6’10, 2020, Nickerson, Wichita Padres
A post player with elite height at 6’10 and a fair amount of skill and athleticism. He has great vision on the block and can sees cutter and pass it off over his shoulder. He doesn’t look to score as much as he should, bit he is a fine passer and great defensive rebounder.
9-Andrew Sonner, 6’5, 2020, Olathe East, Team KC Black 17u
A post player who can spin around defenders and score with a hand in his face. Sooner brings speed and strength to the post position and he can use his body to create as much room as he needs. He flies under the radar a lot during games but always picks the right moments to go off as a rebounder and scorer.
10-Nick Swarts, 6’7, 2020, Blue Valley West, KC Silver
A good body who looks to pass and set screens for his teammates to find paths to the basket. Swarts hustles and fights hard for rebounds, loose balls and the extra possession. He can jam it down the throats on the block and moves out well and looks to pass back inside.
16-Will Townsend, 6’6, 2021, Shawnee Mission East, Team KC Black 16U
A traditional big who plays hard defense and looks to pass from the block. He can score, but moves well when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. He can score some and shoots a smooth little jumper from the side of the basket.
