Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top players in the 17U division.
5-Noah Butler, 6’4, G, 2019, Free State YOBO
Butler is an athletic player who likes to score and do so with force. He fights for position and can bounce well through the lane and stuff it home. Butler puts his head down and moves bodies with his overall strength and grit. A strong and seasoned player who can dominate a game.
4-Gavyn Elkamil, 6’4, 2021, Pittsburg, Carroll GoL1ve 17U
A talented guard who plays both ends of the floor at a high level. Elkamil brings a good combination of speed and strength which translates to fast break looks, extra passes and physical play in the paint. He can shoot from distance and get to the free throw line where he shoots a high percentage shot.
1-Jarrett Hensley, 6’3, 2019, Leavenworth, Team KC Black 17u
All-around leader and competitor. Hensley has the experience to make plays from distance, mid-range, inside the paint and everywhere in between. He is a strong player with good height, length and versatility. He plays both ways hard and likes to shoot from distance and take it to the hole.
5-Easton Hunter, 6’3, G, 2020, Andale NLHA 17
Hunter continues to impress with his all-around game, quick shooting stroke and ability to add a quick scoring punch for NLHA. He has good size, is a strong rebounder and defensive player, and can handle the ball on the perimeter, able to use shot fakes to attack close outs.
4-Shawn Warrior, 6’4, 2020, Campus, Pray and Play
A talented guard who can shoot from distance and drive to the hoop and score over a defender. He has good speed and the handles to find separation and knowledge and experience to avoid problem areas of the floor. He has a nice step back fade in the mid-range and he looks for it at the free throw line elbow.
