Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top defensive players in the 17U division.
12-Nick Arensberg, 6’2, 2020, Shawnee Mission East, YOBO
A crafty guard who can shoot from deep and get on the board. Arensberg has a nice feel for the floor at the guard/wing position and looks to contribute however he can. He has great vision, a player who seems to be a little more motivated than his opponents to do whatever his coach asks of him.
15-Nick Bonner, 6’2, 2020, Derby, Kansas MTXE 17U
Bonner is great in transition and can cruise to the basket and lay up with one hand near the rim. He has a nice basketball frame and can get a step on defenders and go weak side for the finish. He’s a flexible player when he drives the paint he proved his deep game is just as strong.
15-Koby Campbell, 6’2, 2020, Rose Hill, NLHA 17
Campbell has good size, width and understanding of an up-and-down game. He plays physical when the game calls for it and can hit jump shots and 3-pointers with a defender on him. He uses his shoulder to feel for space and takes every inch he can get. A smart player with a nice shot.
30-Preston Reynolds, 6’4, 2021, Shawnee Mission East, Team KC Black 16U
An athletic kid who earns his playing time though defensive pressure and his offensive play making. He has good moves with the ball and pulls it back and then goes back inside to finish plus the foul. He can shoot well a foot inside the arc and has the size and strength to stay on his path when he leaves the floor.
33-Braeden Wiltse, 6’2, 2020, Mill Valley, Mokan 2020
A long wing player who has great height and makes life difficult for those going inside to finish around the rim or looking to hand around the corner wing spot to knock down a 3. He has a similar game to what he defends and can connect from distance and use his slim, long frame to go inside and get a shot off.
