Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top forwards in the 17U division.
(G) 21-Carter Brown, 6’2, 2020, Ogallala, NLHA 17
A hard-nosed player who stays on his opponent and forces them to make athletic plays. You can tell he puts though into his game and makes solid in game decisions with the ball when he dribbles, drives and looks to pass or score. Brown also rebounds some and makes extra passes.
(G) 3-Steele Chapman, 6’2, 2020, Campus, Pray and Play
A nice rhythm player who can handle it, shoot it, rebound over taller player and defend the ball at a high level. He makes a lot of noise when he’s on the floor. He dances around the floor with the ball and makes solid, high IQ plays whether it be with his passing and off ball cutting.
(G) 3-Cade Gollier, 6’0, 2020, Ottawa, Grandstand Elite
Gollier has better size than first meets the eye. He stays inside the arc for the most part. He looks to make soft passes and drive and pull up and knock down short jumpers. He can also shoot the 3, but he drives more often and makes the extra pass.
(G) 1-Trayon Grant, 6’1, 2021, Leavenworth, Team KC Black 16U
A thin guard who moves well in open space and can shake off defenders with the ball. He has good hops and takes his job seriously as a defender. He has good handles and plays a smooth game with around the back moves and layups off the glass. A guy who can extend plays and connect from midrange.
2-Camden McDonald, 6’1, 2021, Heston, Wichita Padres
Has a good rhythm to his step and can shake defenders and get them to commit to a side. He brings great speed to the floor and can handle the ball and take a hit when he drives and stay on point. He sells contact well and can get to the free throw line and connect.
