Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers in the 16U division.
5-Jacob Hanna, 6’3, 2021, Maize, NLHA 16 HAYS
A long and lanky defender who plays close and tight. He has good reach and can block shots, secure rebounds and sets good screens for his size. He cuts inside a lot and looks to get second chance points in the paint. An athletic player who can also step outside some.
30-CJ Powell 6’4, 2021, Highland Park, MOKAN 2021
A smart wing with elite height and great speed. He has nice handles and can put the ball on the floor and force his way inside and score. He has a nice jumper and plays above the rim in transition. Powell has excellent hops and can get up higher than he needs to for a shot, rebound or pass.
0-Colin Schreiber, 6’4, 2021, Salina South, NLHA 16 HAYS
Fast break looks and two-handed dunks. That’s his game. Schreiber runs the floor hard and gets rebounds and forces turnovers. A great defensive player who scores through his defense and rebounding skills away from the basket. He’s just always coming down with the ball and you can’t slow him down.
11-Jake Wolff, 6’1, 2021, Blue Valley, MOKAN 2021
A wide-framed guard who handles the ball and looks to use his body to sell contact when he drives. He’s a player with control and can take his time or speed things up and pass ahead. He bumps defenders off and out of the way easily. A strong player to look out for.
1-Tank Young, 5’9, 2021, St Thomas Aquinas, KC Premiere Blue Chips
A shorter point guard with good flow in the half-court game. He can take advantage of opponents with his speed and quickness with the ball. He feeds the block and is good at creating open looks for the guys around him and on the wing.
