Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top forwards in the 16U division.
0-Jaron Byrd – Shawnee Mission North, Marcus Denmon 2021
A tough kid with a nice frame and good athleticism. He uses his shoulders to get a bit of space and has solid in game strength. His toughness is never an issue and looks to pass and defend as much as he looks to crash the boards, clean up plays and get buckets near the basket.
10-Nicholas Hogan, 6’5, 2021, Eisenhower, NLHA 16 HAYS
Hogan plays hard inside and outworks those around him. He keeps his head up and looks for teammates crashing the boards. He has good footwork on the block and can score with his back to the basket even though he’d rather turn and face the goal to score.
15-Ryan Feldcamp, 6’4, 2022, Jefferson North, Kansas Cagers
The freshman standout moves well off the ball and is very aggressive he runs hard and has a thick, muscular body for his age. He has great footwork and bounce well around the basket. A scorer from mid-range and in who rebounds everything in sight.
21-Noah McCoy, 6’4, 2021, Mill Valley, PAC Gold 16U
An excellent defender with good size, speed and versatility. McCoy is strong for his age and can block shots and force turnovers with his activity on the defensive end. He makes a strong presence in the paint and has a way of getting his hand on the ball. He is also a talented dribbler, someone who can bring forwards out of their comfort zone and burn them in open space.
20-Gabriel Phillips, 6’3, 2021 KANSAS MTXE 16U
A good sized guard for his age who likes to run the point but is also the biggest and strongest player on his team. He looks good on the block due to his athleticism and the power he brings to the floor, a player who can just power his way to the basket and grab rebounds.
