LAWRENCE, Kan. — The annual KC Classic saw some of the top grassroots teams from around the state of Kansas, Kansas City and the region meet at the Kansas Pavilion in Lawrence and the event drew several top performers.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who raised their profile in the 16U division.
12-Devin McKendrick, 6’0, 2021, Derby, NLHA 16 HAYS
You can see him fly up the court in his solid pink shoes. A quick player who has good reaction time and a flexible game. He rebounds well on defense then can go coast-to-coast for two points or another assist. The game runs best through him as he showcases a nice combination of talent and skill.
13-Bobby Olson, 6’2, 2021, Bishop Miege, PAC Gold 16U
Olson loves to push the tempo and will pass ahead religiously if there’s a teammate in front of him after he secures a rebound. He is very aware of his surroundings and plays his best when he’s going as fast as he can. He can also shoot and get to the basket but he prefers to pass and run the floor.
11-Emmitt Robbins, 6’0, 2021, Jefferson North, Kansas Cagers
Robbins is a hard-working guard who can handle the ball, rebound and defend. He can stay with opponents and make them use their weak hand. He can also come away with steals when he jumps out to deflect a pass with his weak hand.
15-Parker Scott, 6’1, 2021, Maize South, NLHA 16 HAYS
Scott can shoot and handle the ball. He has a good feel for the corner 3 and looks to shoot when he has the ball there. He stays with his opponents and adjusts his shot if he isn’t hitting. He keeps grinding and also is an underrated passer to the high post. A smart player.
