LAWRENCE, Kan. — The annual KC Classic saw some of the top grassroots teams from around the state of Kansas, Kansas City and the region meet at the Kansas Pavilion in Lawrence and the event drew several top performers.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events most underrated performers in the 16U division.
24-Ty Abts, 6’3 2021, Eudora, Kansas Cagers
Gets his hands up and in the face of his opponents. He’s a fluid player on the block ho defends well on the block and high post. He’s very aggressive and can direct traffic and force the offense to go places they don’t want to. He can also go score from distance and gets on the boards.
20-Trevion Alexander, 6’3, 2021, Topeka West, Kansas Hoggs 16U
A nice body in the paint with athleticism and skill. He has a ton of potential and can dominate a game at times without realizing his game is so versatile. He catches passes and rebounds at the high post then shoots before he has a chance to overthink his next move. A lot of talent to work with.
34-La’var Felder, 6’3, 2021, Central, MOKAN 2021
Felder is a good weak side helper on defense and a solid passer and scorer. He rebound on both ends and fights for the ball against those taller, stronger and more athletic. He has a way of coming up big. He also likes defending the best ball handler on the opposing team.
33-Dylan Henke, 5’10, 2021, Mill Valley, PAC Gold 16U
Henke can play small or above his listed height. He can handle the ball or pass it off to a teammate. He rebounds well for his size and mixes things up when he drives the basket or pulls it out for a 3.
12-Ty Henry, 6’1, 2022, Seamon, Kansas Hoggs 16U
A lanky guard/wing player who can slip through a crowd and pull down rebounds and scores off the glass with a center in his face. He reacts well and is stronger and more flexible than he looks. He likes shooting 3-pointers and can defend the ball the full length of the floor.
