While there were a ton of talented players, I have broken them up by age and region, and here’s a look at five standouts from the 16U division.
Bryson Spell | 6’7” PF | Team Loaded VA
A stretch four out of Cape Henry that continues to show improvement in a number of ways, Spell showed the entire repertoire in DC as he scored on the block, in transition and from behind the arc. He’s improved physically as he’s put on some muscle and grown a couple of inches, and his confidence continues to improve as well. His ability to make shots and stretch the floor as well as guard in the paint and rebound will make him a coveted recruit moving forward.
Justyn Fernandez | 6’3” G | Team Loaded VA
The Monacan guard is another guy who continues to improve and is set to have a breakout year in the Richmond area. At 6’3” he has good size to be an off guard, he’s extremely athletic and uses it on both ends of the floor and he competes and plays with intensity. He can make shots from all three levels and is a two way impact guy who still has a lot of room to grow.
Jaden House | 6’2′ G | Team Loaded VA
House is still looking to reclassify, and when he does that he’ll see more and more college suitors come to watch how he can score the basketball. He can play on and off the basketball, he gets to his spots and can make shots off the bounce from all over the court and he has a strong frame that will get more athletic as he sure it up. He’s a points in bunches guy who is tough to defend and doesn’t stay cold for long.
Tyrell Ward | 6’5” F | New World
Ward impressed me in a number of ways, as the DeMatha forward showed good versatility on both ends of the floor. He’s a lean and long wing with good springs and he uses them to block shots and rebound on both ends of the floor. He’s exceptional in transition, he can shoot the midrange on drive-and-kicks, finish through traffic and guard multiple positions as well.
Savion Jackson | 6’0” G | New World
The DC guard out of KIPP Charter School took over in the second half when I watched them, using his strong frame and good bounce to get to the rim and finish plays at and above the rim. He’s strong, quick and bouncy which makes him hard to match up with, and he has a chip on his shoulder and a mean streak that allows him to take over the game as he did. He also showed good on ball defensive ability and good instincts on both ends of the floor.
