The training camp began with just over 30 of some of the top prospects in the 2021 and 2022 class and that list has now been cut to just 13 prospects. The USA U16 roster will only have room for 12 spots, which means there is still one more final cut left before departing for Brazil.
According to USA Basketball, the 12-man roster will be released prior to the team’s departure to Brazil on May 30 for the 2019 FIBA U16 Americas on June 3rd through June 9th. Georgia has been well represented during the USA trials and could potentially fully represent during this year’s tournament.
Besides Pace Academy’s own head coach Sharman White being one of the assitant coaches for this year’s U16 FIBA Americas, 2021 F Jabari Smith Jr. of Sandy Creek High School and 2022 PG Dillon Hunter of Westlake High School have made both cuts in the last few days.
Both Smith Jr. and Hunter have been impressing well during their time in Fort Lauderdale. The two future stars of the peach state are coming off solid high school campaigns in their young careers and have started off their spring portion of their AAU season in great fashion as well. Jabari Smith Jr. has been running with the Atlanta Celtics in the Adidas Gauntlet while Dillon Hunter has been running with the Georgia Stars 16U squad on the Nike EYBL circuit.
