April and May is always a whirlwind of offseason hoops, nearly every weekend you’ll see Prep Hoops writers out and about at any number of tourneys. Our Iowa writers were no exception. Now, we transition into June, which is when the grassroots teams take a month-long break, and the high school team camps take the forefront. In July, the club teams will re-convene for one final whirlwind month of hoops. Below we’ll take a look at some of the best surprises we've encountered throughout the spring.  


      Emarion Ellis

Emarion Ellis, 6'5 G/F (Iowa Barnstormers Gold 16u)

Maybe Ellis wasn't a surprise to those who saw him this season on the eastern side of the state. But with his size, athleticism and ability, the Davenport Central wing made his name known across the state, and even the Midwest. 


Jamal Litt, 6'1 G (Iowa Mavericks-Cleveland 17u)

A pesky defender who's aggressive while attacking the rim offensively, Litt has caught the eye of several Prep Hoops writers over the course of the spring. He'll be a guy the Iowa Mavericks top 17u squad will
