Hustle Region – 17U Power Teams
Who are the top squads in the Hustle Region of the Prep Hoops Circuit? We give you the Power Teams!
The Power Five!
Colorado Titans. Since the Titans knocked off Powerhouse Arizona in the Bash they’ve continued to compete in tournaments weekend after weekend. They suffered a two point loss in a title game in Idaho two weeks ago (a 4-1 record) and then in Denver competing in the CCBA Spring Finals the Titans without a few key members, the Titans had a nice showing in the event won by the Billups Elite 16s. Meanwhile Owen Koonce is impressing his state in basketball and in state track events.
New Mexico D1 Ambassadors. Ricky Lujan, a 6-foot-1 point guard, led his team to the Mayhem in the Plex title game before a loss to Team Speights. Lujan is one of the leaders in the All Circuit Team race that will be named in August. Eli Davidson, Ray Brown, and Ricky Lujan have formed a fantastic trio for their 9-2 PH Circuit record.
LA Elite Premier. LA Elite is in the Memorial Day event hosted by the Compton Magic (Adidas Regional) and that should give everybody a chance to watch 6-foot-8 JT Tan. The 2020 big is so good facing the basket from the elbow. Tam continues doing damage in repetitive ways scoreboard wise, but the man of a 1,000 moves has found many different ways to get those baskets.
Nevada Hard 2 Guard. Two events from Hard 2 Guard and the only teams that have been able to knock them out are the nation’s second ranked team (Dream Vision) and LA Elite. A team living up to their word so far this year on the PH Circuit. Ray Daniels had another strong weekend in the Bragging Rights Showcase last weekend.
California Select. After a strong showing in Arizona a few weeks back the Select Black squad is competing in the Adidas Regional. Their Battle Zone bracket games this Memorial Day weekend include Team Zona, Team Veritas Oronoz, and Pangos Elite. 3-0 in pool play? From what we’ve seen that’s our take.
Next Five
Powerhouse Hoops. A strong spring continues with a 3-1 record in the UAA Rise event in Dallas (lone loss was by a point to Dallas Showtyme). Alem Husenevich, Tay Boothman, and Dre Henry all with big weekends, and names you should be very familiar with.
The Truth EYBL. Four wins in five games in the Hustle in the Sun, Jaren Johnson and Joshua Jones continue to be one of the top pairs in the Hustle Region.
Utah Premier National Red. Haven’t seen them in action since their 4-1 performance in Phoenix but a respected program that’s getting better.
The Legion of Hoops White. A 3-1 run in the opener followed by a recent 3-2 showing, Legion of Hoops has put together a good circuit run plus played well in the Southwest Showcase last weekend (Jackson Risi hit 18 threes in four games!).
Fastbreak Sports. A 4-1 run in the Hustle in the Sun has caught our attention. A 66-64 win over BTI to end the weekend gave this team so momentum heading into future weekends.
