There were many games taking place at once throughout the day, but here’s a look at some of the top shooters that I saw at the event.
1. Shaqir O’Neal – The Truth EYBL 16U
Sure his father was arguably the most dominant post player in NBA history, but O’Neal looks to bring a much different skill set to the court. Heading into his junior year, he’s developed into a knockdown shooter from three-point range. He can often be found spotting up behind the arc and his quick release makes it tough for defenders to close out on him in time.
2 Sanya Soukchareon – Los Angeles Elite Mitchell 16U
This incoming junior at Westminster High School is another knockdown shooter from distance. He’s got a very quick release, making it tough for defenders to rush back out to the three-point line to cover him. He spots up behind the arc is always in position to catch a pass from his teammates who look for him.
3. Demorian Lowe – Gamepoint Inland Empire 17U
This incoming senior showed off his ability to be a spot up shooter, but he also displayed his capabilities of being able to get off an outside shoot with a defender rushing at him in his face. He squares up well behind the arc and he doesn’t rush his shot. Defenders respect his three-point shot, enabling him to get closer to the basket with pump fakes. He also uses fakes to get the defender to fly past him so he can step to the side and still shoot the three.
4. Jake Hlwiyak – Los Angeles Elite Hollingsworth 17U
The incoming senior was one of the best shooters on display at the event. He’s always ready behind the three-point line to put up a shot. He spots up well and puts himself in position to get a pass from his teammates. Defenders know that he’s a threat from distance and he uses it to his advantage. He uses fakes to get defenders out of position on the perimeter so he can attack and get to the rim.
5. Keith Higgins Jr – BTI Select 17U
This incoming junior is a flat out scorer, but he is especially deadly on the perimeter and from behind the arc. His ability to create his own shot is what makes him very difficult to guard. Unlike most spot up shooters, he can bring the ball up court and pull up from three. His range extends beyond the standard three-point line. He’s near automatic from anywhere on the perimeter if he gets a good look.
