There was a lot of talent on hand, including a number of impressive wing prospects. Here are some of the top ones we noticed over the course of the three days of play.
Jack McCloskey (2022 Santa Margarita/Dream Vision) – McCloskey (pictured) is a long and lean 6-foot-5 but has the frame that could put on more weight/strength. He certainly showed some accuracy from long range but is more than just a standstill shooter – McCloskey was good at moving without the ball, getting to the basket in transition, and also using some passing to find the open man.
Trey Wilborn (2022 Mater Dei/The Truth EYBL) – Wilborn is a forward/wing with good size and height at 6-foot-5. He spotted up to knock down threes with his lefty stroke along the baseline, but also had the ability to put the ball on the floor a bit and take it to the hoop. Wilborn swung JV this past season and should have a bigger role at Mater Dei this upcoming year.
Marco Kenz (2022 St John Bosco/Dream Vision) – Kenz is long, rangy, and athletic at 6-foot-5. He was very active on the boards on both ends and had the ability to finish at the rim. Kenz will need to improve on his perimeter shooting to be more effective on the wing, but he attacked the basket well and has the physical tools to have an impact on both sides of the ball.
Malachi Murrell (2022 Shadow Hills/Gamepoint Inland Empire) – Murrell is listed at 6-foot-2, but plays much bigger than his size due to his very long arms and his ability to use them to finish around and at the hoop. He was especially dangerous in transition as he used long strides to beat opponents down court and would score with the flush. Murrell’s body type indicates that he may not be finished growing so it will be interesting to see how he contiues to physically develop.
Elijah Moore (2022 Oak Hills/Rancho Elite Premier) – Moore is a swingman with some length at 6-foot-4. He didn’t particularly shoot very well in the action we saw him in but he had a good motor and was very active on the boards on both ends.
