There was a lot of talent on hand, including a number of impressive combo guard prospects. Here are some of the top ones we noticed over the course of the three days of play.
Davion Wright (2022 Franklin/The Truth EYBL) – Wright (pictured) was one of the more athletic guards in the division. At 6-foot-1, he has a hop in his step and was able to use quick moves to accelerate into the lane and has the bounce to finish at the rim. Wright shot respectably from three-point range and also hit a number of pull-up jumpers as well.
Camden Thompson (2022 Clovis East/24/7) – Thompson was one of the top offensive players in the tournament. He aggressively put his head down and fearlessly attacked the basket and had the strength to absorb contact and still put the ball in the hole with either hand while getting fouled. While his preference was driving, Thompson shot the ball effectively from three too.
Damian Ruiz (2022 Murietta Valley/Gamepoint IC) – Ruiz is simply a shot-maker who can score at all three levels. He was one of the best shooters in the tournament and got hot in a number of games from the outside, but has a solid body at 6-foot-1 where he could create off the dribble and finish around the basket.
Tajavis Miller (2022 Servite/Los Angeles Elite Payne) – Miller is a good athlete at 6-foot-2. He attacked the basket relentlessly, either drawing the foul or finishing at the hoop. Miller seemed to have a little bit of a hitch to his jumper, but hit enough perimeter shots to keep defenses honest.
Omari Nesbit (2022 Luther Burbank/Matt Barnes Elite) – Nesbit is a jet-quick 5-foot-9 guard who showed some creative handles and dribble-drive moves. More of a scorer than a distributor, he also had the capability of getting hot from three-point range as well as penetration off the bounce.
