Continue ReadingThe PrepHoops Circuit Hustle in the Sun certainly had a lot of future college talent on display, even at the 15U level. While it’s obviously a little early for most of the young men in that age group, there is some college recruiting activity for some of them and several already kind of have an idea what they are looking to do at the next level.
Here’s a look at where some of the top players that participated are currently at with their college recruitment.
Corey Yerger (2022 Sacramento Grant/Dream Vision) – Yerger is an ultra-athletic 5-foot-10 point guard who really impressed with his ability to finish at the rim and also create for others off the bounce. He’s already picked up a scholarship offer from Long Beach State, is hearing from San Diego State, and has another early favorite. “I like Oregon State,” Yerger said. “I like the team and I like the school. I’ve been on their campus and I like it.”
Ben Shtolzberg (2022 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame/The Truth EYBL) – Shtolzberg is a 6-foot-2 combo guard who was really aggressive going to the hoop and pushing the pace. He’s been hearing from schools like Pepperdine and Oregon and recently indicated he received a letter from North Carolina, but there’s definitely a dream school for him. “I want to go to UCLA,” Shtolzberg said. “I’m an LA kid.”
Jeremiah Nyarko (2022 St John Bosco/Dream Vision) – Nyarko is an elite 6-foot-8 run-and-jump athlete who plays above the rim, but also posseses a very soft touch on his shot. The native of Ghana has only been in the United State for six months so he’s not totally aware of the recruiting process quite yet, but college coaches are aware of him as he definitely has high-major potential written all over him. Nyarko defintiely has goals for himself. “I want to make it to the NBA one day,” Nyarko said.
Joshua Jefferson (2022 Liberty/Dream Vision) – Jefferson is a rock-solid 6-foot-7 forward who has outstanding footwork down in the post and is emerging as a perimeter threat. He notes that schools like Arizona and Washington have been in early contact but his focus is not really on his recruitment at this stage. “I’m not really looking, I’m just playing right now,” Jefferson said.
Davion Wright (2022 Franklin/The Truth EYBL) – Wright is a 6-foot-2 bouncy combo guard who showed the ability to score at all three levels. He’s been hearing from Fresno State, Cal, St. Mary’s. “I’m looking at the West Coast,” Wright said. “I kind of want to stay close to home.”
Jack McCloskey (2022 Santa Margarita/Dream Vision) – McCloskey is a lanky 6-foot-5 wing that shoots it well from the perimeter and has a good feel for the game. His coach indicates some mid-major schools have shown interest but McCloskey is keeping things wide open. “Whatever is the best fit for me,” McCloskey said.
Trey Wilborn (2022 Mater Dei/The Truth EYBL) – Wilborn is a well-built 6-foot-5 wing/forward who sports a lefty stroke from the perimeter but is able to use his body to finish around the basket. He’s yet to receive any college interest but is hopeful this spring and getting the opportunity to play varsity ball at Mater Dei will result in helping him attract attention from the blue bloods. “I’d really like Duke or something like that,” Wilborn said.
Mike Price (2023 Crespi/Dream Vision) – Price is an explosive 6-foot-1 scoring point guard who can really get to the basket but can also knock down the open jumper. It’s very early in the recruiting process for him as he hasn’t even gotten to high school yet but you can bet interest will be on its way. “I just want to improve my game still,” Price said. “I’ve still got a lot to learn.”
Chris Fowler (2021 La Habra/BTI) – Fowler is a lanky 6-foot-5 wing who has a nice touch but can also really create off the dribble. We got a chance to take in one 16U game and it was a good one for Fowler as he hit the game winner. He’s wide open with his recruitment. “Just anywhere I can play,” Fowler said. “I’d like to stay local though.”
