Continue ReadingMany of the top performers from Michigan at the Havoc in the Heartland were bigger wings and post players. The common theme for many of the Michigan teams were lots of hustle, physical play, and good solid defense. Many of these traits can be seen in the below players as they played well throughout the weekend.
Brandon Jackson (2020) Downriver Bad Boys- Belleville
Brandon was an excellent low post threat for the Downriver Bad Boys. A 6’7 power forward, he did a nice job of backing down his defenders when he had the ball in the paint. Able to score with his back to the basket and also facing up, Jackson demonstrated an ability to finish with both hands, making him tough to guard over the weekend.
Jeremiah Pittman (2020) MBA 17U- Grand Rapids Union
A playmaker on both ends of the floor, Pittman is a good-sized wing with a high ceiling. On the offensive end, he has an explosive first step off the dribble. Using his size and speed, Pittman was very difficult to defend. Defensively, he has quick and active hands disrupting passing lanes and making it difficult for opposing guards to make plays.
Jeffrey Pullen (2020) Michigan Goonies- Detroit Voyager Prep
Pullen was by far the best dunker I saw on display the entire weekend. An athletic 6’6 forward, he does more than just throw down. Pullen has nice court awareness and spaces the floor out. Posting up several times during the games, he can score in the paint and also excelled in high-low post passes. I have concerns with his ball-handling as he dribbled the ball too high when outside the paint. With his best play being in the paint, I think he can be a solid power forward for an NAIA program.
Nate Brown (2021) Michigan Goonies
The lefty guard played up an age level for the Goonies over the weekend. Overall Nate has a nice all-around offensive game. His shooting form is solid and his range stretches out near college level. Able to get in the paint when needed off the dribble drive, Brown has a high ceiling as he can take over a game when needed.
Parker Neu (2020) Northern Exposure- Traverse City West
Besides Jackson, there were not many big men that outperformed Neu in my opinion during the weekend. Standing at 6’6, he is extremely difficult to box out and gave opponents fits on the offensive glass. Disciplined and possessing good ball control, Neu is a solid finisher and gets to the free throw line often. Because of his dominance on the glass, he sometimes draws double teams against opponents.
Jack Karasinski (2022) MBA 15U- Gr Catholic Central
A nice overall wing, Karasinski is a talented ball-handler who creates space utilizing his quick dribble. His midrange shot is impressive and his mechanics are very good for a 15U player. Defensively, he has great lateral quickness allowing him to contain opposing players on the perimeter. He was one of my favorite players to watch at the 15U level over the weekend.
