GARDEN GROVE, CA—The Hustle in the Sun, orchestrated by the PrepHoops staff, was one of the better spring events in terms of quality of talent. Each and every time slot there was always at least a couple of games that would be coined “must see.” When the dust settled on Sunday evening there would be a number of prospects that would take their respective games to new levels—including Jabari Walker (son of former NBA player Samaki Walker) as well as up-and-coming 2021 point guard Frankie Collins.
Jason Hart Jr. (The Truth EYBL)
2022, PG, 6-foot-1, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: Hart, the son of Syracuse and NBA standout Jason Hart, is building his resume as well. He is a true point guard who sets up his teammates in the half court set or advances the ball in transition. He has improved his outside touch and is pretty potent in the mid-range area—not too mention in the paint area as well. One of the better looking point guard prospects in the West, regardless of class.
Justus Jackson (Powerhouse Hoops)
2021, PG, 6-foot, 150 pounds
Joel’s Take: Jackson is the ultimate floor general who can impact the game both as a shooter as well as a facilitator. He can knock in the deep 3, deliver nifty assists, or attack off the dribble. He needs to improve his strength attacking defenders off the dribble as well as his finishing skills in the paint, but he is a solid player.
Nolan Boffman (BTI Hoops)
2020, PG, 6-foot, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: The biggest surprise of all the point guard types was Boffman. He has good length with long arms and excellent quickness. Strength is an issue at this stage, but his moxie makes up for it at this level. He is a relentless competitor and can score from all three levels.
Brandon Whitney (BTI Hoops)
2020, PG, 6-foot, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: Whitney isn’t flashy or dynamic with any particular skill, but he’s productive. He has good size, solid strength, and he makes excellent decisions. His burst off the dribble is solid and he can score over length in the paint. Look for his stock to continue to rise as his senior campaign progresses.
Reese Dixon (The Truth EYBL)
2021, CG, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: Dixon isn’t a true point guard per se, but he has the skill set and size to play all three perimeter positions. His size allows him to see over defenders and he has the athleticism to take defenders off the dribble and either score or drop off a nifty assist. Dixon is one of the more intriguing guard-types in his class out West.
