Here are some of the top shooters from the 16U and 17U levels:
Blake Berg, ECI Prospects 17U
Berg was one of the more impressive guys for ECI Prospects over the weekend and the area it seems as though he’s improved the most from the high school season is his perimeter shooting. His percentages weren’t great as a junior as West Fargo Sheyenne but when you watch him shoot, you think it’s only a matter of time before he achieves more consistency. He’s starting to do that now and he was on his game over the weekend from deep. He’s already long, smart and pretty athletic. If he can continue knocking down triples, look out.
Carson Henningsgard, ND Attack Green 17U
Henningsgard is another solid all-around player but when he’s hot, his long-range shooting is something to watch. He’s willing to pull up from beyond the 3-point line and his release is quick enough so that defenders think they are contesting when in reality, he’s open. He isn’t the quickest guy but because his long range shooting ability forces defenders out beyond where they are comfortable, he’s able to get to other spots on the floor too.
Emmett Kenney, ECI Selects Hanson 16U
ECI Selects had a solid weekend and Kenney’s play on the wing was definitely a bright spot. The Fargo Shanley guard looked like one of the best shooters in the tournament at times as he was often the beneficiary of a number of drive-and-dish opportunities.
Brooks Carroll, ND Attack Blue 16U
Carroll was one of the most impressive players I saw over the weekend and his picturesque perimeter jumper was eye-catching. Carroll has a quick release, gets good elevation and consistently gets to spots on the floor where his teammates can find him. He seems to understand the concept of spacing in the halfcourt and in transition and he’s hard to defend because he can also blow by people who close out irresponsibly.
Jaden Hamilton, ND Attack Black 17U
Hamilton is one of the best shooters in North Dakota and had success over the weekend in that department again. He’s 6-foot-6 but he spends most of his time around the 3-point line where he’s deadly. His release is quick and efficient and when he’s allowed to step into a shot, he’s money. Hamilton showed the ability to put the ball on the deck and knock down pull up and stepback jumpers as well and while he isn’t going to blow by a lot of defenders, his length and shot mechanics allow him to get shots off against defenders.
Zion Dettman, Inspired Athletics 17U
Dettman is another one of the better shooters in North Dakota’s 2020 class and he fills that role to a tee for Inspired Athletics. Dettman has a quick release and deep range and knows how to get to spots on the floor where he can do damage and his teammates can find him.
