16 teams will be in attendance at the 17U level with all action taking place at Moorhead High School. It’s pool play format until Sunday when the winners from each of the four pools advance to play each other.
Here are some individual players worth checking in on:
Grant Nelson, ECI Prospects
Nelson is arguably the most talented and most recruitable player in the tournament. The Devils Lake forward combines multifaceted offensive skill with great length and mobility on the defensive end. He’s been productive against top-notch big men and has a chance to dominate in this tournament.
Talon Hoffer, Inspired Athletics
Hoffer has been very impressive through the first month or so of the grassroots season, providing rock solid all around play on both ends of the floor. He’s big, strong, athletic and skilled.
Seth Nelson, ND Attack Blue
Nelson is a really intriguing player. For his high school team, he’s a double double machine as one of the biggest and most athletic guys in Class B North Dakota. On the grassroots circuit, he’s more of a combo forward and he can create mismatches with his ability to handle the ball, shoot and finish in traffic.
Jaiden Wright, ECI Selects
Wright is one of the go-to offensive options for ECI Select and his ability to push the tempo and get into the teeth of the defense make him an interesting player. He’s not the biggest guard but he has been productive this spring.
Carson Henningsgard, ND Attack Green
Henningsgard has been one of the best players in North Dakota for a few years already and is having a strong spring with ND Attack. He’s a good outside shooter, controls the tempo of the game and plays an unselfish style that brings out the best in his teammates.
Dante Gunville, ND Attack Blue
Gunville is one of the best shooters in this tournament and one of the better scorers with this ND Attack team. With the way this group pushes and moves the ball, Gunville will have a chance to shine this weekend.
Jaden Hamilton, ND Attack Black
Hamilton is one of the more intriguing players in the tournament because at 6-foot-6, he’s got the skillset and size to be a matchup nightmare. He’s a very good long range shooter but also produces because of his activity level.
Blake Berg, ECI Prospects
Berg is arguably the best shooter on ECI Prospects and while he isn’t necessarily a dynamic athlete, he’s effective on both ends of the floor because of smarts and skills. He fills in really well as a guy who can make plays on or off the ball.
Deonte Martinez, ND Attack Black
Martinez is one of the best guards in North Dakota despite being a tad undersized. His ability to get into the paint and finish is as good as anybody’s and he puts pressure on the defense by staying in attack mode.
Cayden Rickard, Inspired Athletics
One of the top shooters and volume scorers in North Dakota, Rickard is a solid piece for a good Inspired Athletics squad. He’s smart without the ball, utilizing screens and changing his speeds to get open and he can create his own shot effectively despite not being incredibly explosive.
