EBO Showdown – 2022 Sleepers
Jahlil Florence, 6-1 G, Lincoln/ NP4 Elite
Florence is one of the more improved frosh prospects in San Diego. The combo guard can score it, and did so against 17u competition. Crafty and shifty off the bounce, Florence scored using step backs, pull-up jumpshots and a few strong finishes through contact.
Zach Rose, 6-1 G, Mt. Carmel/ The Academy
Rose is a very good shooter off the catch and when limited to one or two dribbles. He helped break the game vs the Matrix open by knocking down three triples in transition and the halfcourt. He also moves well without the ball to find openings to score. He’ll need to trim the baby fat, but if he does, has a chance.
Luke Sevier, 5-9 G, Mt. Carmel/ The Academy
An athletic guard with nice length and a nice layup package. He had back-to-back finishes of the highlight variety, one a eurostep off a steal in transition, and the second a pretty crazy reverse layup. He also shoots it off the catch with nice range and is a creative playmaker off of ball screens.
John Woodworth, 5-9 G, The Rock/ California Select Grey
He sprained his ankle in the second half of the first game, but I like what I saw from Woodworth in limited minutes. He’s gotten significantly stronger since the end of the year, and he’s showing the ability to play in the pick-and-roll and score through contact. It was hard to get an honest eval on him during the regular season due to the level of competition, but this viewing was promising.
Carl Sanchez, 5-7 G, Eastlake/ San Diego Matrix
Eastlake might have its point guard of the future in Sanchez, a speedy and quick point guard who shoots it with range. He hit six threes in a loss versus The Academy, keeping them within striking distance. Also noted that he has solid court vision.
