Westfield, Ind — Prep Hoops Illinois was in attendance for the first night of Nike EYBL action at the Pacers Athletic Center in Westfield, Ind Both Chicago based Nike Programs Mac Irvin Fire & MeanStreets played and we were able to check both out as well as some of the other Nike EYBL 17U teams from across the country. Here are some of the top Illinois standouts on the night and some national standouts as well.
Friday Night Illinois Standouts
F – 2020 6’9’’ Seryee Lewis – Mac Irvin Fire
The Morgan Park (IL) Forward Seryee Lewis was a force in the paint and active on the glass from the opening tip. Lewis finished with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds. He didn’t force anything on offense ran the floor well for the Fire and showed a really soft touch around the rim in a win over Team Final (PA)
G – 2020 6’4’’ Adam Miller – Mac Irvin Fire
The top prospect in the state for the 2020 class started off a little slow Friday night but his shot started to fall in the 2nd half to help the Fire pull away from Team Final. Adam Miller hit 4-3 pointers to finish with a team high 17 points for the Fire.
PG – 2020 6’0 Marcus Watson – Mac Irvin Fire
The ultra-quick PG Marcus Watson continues to build off a strong session I in Atlanta with a solid performance Friday. He controlled the tempo from the lead guard spot and dished out several no look passes and was able to penetrate off the dribble to get in the lane to either score, get to the free throw line or fine a teammate. Was impressed with his development since the last time I saw him.
G – 6’3’’ Destin Whitaker – MeanStreets
Whitaker out of Romeoville splashed in 4- three pointers in a lost to Phenom U. Facing a long and much bigger Phenom team Whitaker was able to battle on the glass and defend much taller player on defense. When he comes off a screen and has his feet set you are surprised when he misses. One of the top shooter in his class for the state.
G – 6’5’’ Isiah Rivera – MeanStreets
The three point shooting from the MeanStreets kept them in the game up until around mid 4th quarter when Phenom went on a big run. Rivera was one who kept it close. He came off the bench to chip in 11 points including 3 – 3 point field goals.
G – 6’3’’ DJ Steward – MeanStreets
Whitney Young G – Steward impressed friday with his ability to get into the lane and create. He made some really touch baskets in the 1st half as well as assist on kickouts to his shooters, Whitaker & Rivera. Steward is just so shifty but plays under control His shot wasn’t falling from deep but he’s proven he can knock down shots from the perimeter. He finished with 11 points in the lost.
National Standouts
C – 6’10 Davion Bradford – MoKan
The bigs from Mokan were straight controlling the paint for MoKan. The 6’10 Bradford out of St. Louis started it off with a couple big dunks off pick and roll action. He showed the ability to run the floor get position and seal his man and make a move. He can also create his guards for the way they penitrated the lane which lead to easy rim shaking dunks for Bradford. If he plays with that type of motor constantly look for his stock to really rise. He finished with 24 points on (10-11) shooting, and 7 rebounds in a win over The Family
C- 7’0” N’Faly Dante – MoKan
Dante who is one of the top post players in the class, came off the bench for MoKan and picked up right were Bradford he is really long and uses his length to block and alter shots. He also worked the pick and roll action for easy dunks were all they had to do was throw it up for Dante. He also showed soft touch around the basket. Potential really high for N’Faly Dante with that type of length, he can be a force to protect the rim and that changes the game having a 7 footer waiting in the paint.
G – 5’10 Isiah Wilson – Team Final
Liked the gritty play from the 5’10 PG out of Pittsburg. He hit some big shots and dished in out to keep Team Final in the game against Mac Irvin Fire. he got hot in the 2nd half from deep to finish with 16 points in a lost
