Chris Bready Tops Unsigned Talent
There are a number of great 2019 prospects, but Chris Bready may be the top unsigned senior still available for colleges to pick up. Averaging 15.9 points per game on a team that was replete with talent, Bready’s shortcomings seemed to disintegrate as he progressed throughout his career. Unlike some superstars who seem to just pluck stardom from thin air, Bready has worked extremely hard at perfecting his craft. With his high school career now over, he is ready to put a college jersey on.
Prep Hoops Wisconsin caught up with the senior to talk recruiting along with some extra details.
Chris Bready’s play style has made him very alluring to multiple college programs. Bready says that many programs are seeking his services, but Trinidad State stands out to him as “hands down” the school that has been pursuing hardest. He also said, “(I have) been talking to Augusta University (Georgia), Cleveland State (Tennessee), Ripon College (Wisconsin), and the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.” It is only a matter of time until the 6’4″ guard finds a program-best fitted to utilize his skills.
Bready has made great strides over the course of his career, but he also has many things that he thinks he can get better at. “There’s a lot I know I need to improve on. My body; I need to keep lifting, doing all of my core and balance stuff, conditioning, ball handling, getting my release quicker, footwork. I finished the year shooting 84% from the free throw line but I believe I can shoot way better so I need to work on that. Post work, midrange game, and also my 3 ball.” While a couple of these deficiencies are barely noticeable imperfections in his game, improvements in these key areas will add to his already impressive talents.
As for his strengths, Bready said, “(My) versatility offensively with my ability to shoot the ball – it gives me an advantage because defenders have to play up and I’m strong enough to blow by them and get to the rack easy. Also my body – all the hard work is paying off I’m able to get anywhere I want on the floor. My length makes it easy for me to defend and to be able to alter shots and get steals and my ability to rebound.”
Bready has not set an exact date for his commitment, but says that he will make his final decision “pretty soon.” Regardless of which school he commits to, it is likely that Chris Bready will work himself into a good situation, just like he did in high school.
